Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) was a Swedish scientist, nobleman, and theologian who spent his life investigating the mysteries of the soul. Later, he was given a seat on the Swedish House of Nobles by Charles XII’s successor, Queen Ulrika Eleonora. Between 1743 and 1745 he began to have visions of heaven, hell, and Jesus Christ which resulted in a stream of books about the nature of God, the afterlife, and the inner meaning of the Bible. Born in Stockholm to a staunchly Lutheran family, he graduated from the University of Uppsala and then traveled to England, Holland, France, and Germany to study the leading scientists of the time. He devoted the last decades of his life to studying Scripture and presenting his own unique theology to the world.

I had to re-read everything three times before I absorbed it all, but ultimately I've understood everything I've read. Most of the tips were things I’ve read before in other similar books, but that tells me a couple of things. I am not callous. Both books are great for a quick 'shot in the arm' of gearhead wonderland. Yet at the same time, responsibility for reversing the trend is placed squarely in human hands. He points out the significant growth potential of pre-industrial, "Smithian", capitalist growth and discusses interesting ways in which this occurred in England. This is another great Pickens sales reference. Wonderful book, new. No other book but Pippi Longstocking has been as much fun to read out loud to my daughter. Want a refund! Such a waste of time.. Amazon did well in getting the book to me on time and in great condition. A lot of the formal definitions (finite automata, pushdown automata, Turing machines, context-free grammars, etc.) baffled me on the first reading, but after reviewing the examples and working through a few problems, I could go back, re-read the formal de
