It seeks to explain to the layperson two of the thornier issues in modern copyright law for writers, musicians, artists and filmmakers.Basically, the work (written by James Boyle and Jennifer Jenkins and illustrated by Keith Aoki) uses a documentary filmmaker to examine the impact of the doctrines of "public domain" and "fair use." The public domain is comprised of material on which copyright never existed or has expired and, hence, can be freely used by the public at large. Not being a full-fledged geek myself, I'm sure that I missed some references. I found myself rooting for the main character's demise toward the end of the book. I have used this book for bible study and it has been a big help. This book reminded me somewhat of James Baldwin in an off-hand way in that the stories of average people are sometimes more compelling than those who usually find themselves in the history books. It is other centered. The focus on gunfighters keeps the story lively, and the action is put in a historical context that provi
