"Corey Mesler's novel-in-dialogue is a smart, funny, harrowing look at the way language at once defines us and fails to sutain us. And you'll be surprsied how sexy a book made out of dialogue can be.""Corey Mesler's TALK is a brilliant tour de force of a novel, witty and wise and zingy with the zeitgeist. Written in entirely witty, sometimes dour dialogue, TALK is a marvelous look at the contemporary culure, riddled with lovely asides and its fair share of jokes, almost every one of which is as affectionate and engaging as a joke can be. The conversations that comprise this beguiling work are mercurial, diabolically deceptive, able to change from consolation to confinement at the turn of a phraseTALK is a bittersweet gospel for our time.""Corey Mesler's novel TALK is a terrific read, a real pleasure for book lovers and lovers of contemporary fiction. This is indeed an auspicious fiction debut."
A short story of his has been chosen for the 2002 edition of New Stories from the South: The Year's Best, (edited by Shannon Ravenel). Corey Mesler is co-owner of Burke's Book store in Memphis. . He has published poetry and fiction in Yellow Silk, Thema, Mars Hill Review and othersAnd to steal the thunder from one of its blurbs, you're going to be surprised at "just how sexy a novel made out of dialogue can be." In the end, all the talk amounts to much more than talk: it builds meaning. Corey Mesler's novel is set completely in dialogue. Aristotle may have defined us as "political, " "featherless, " and "bi-pedal"; Mesler defines us as TALK.The categories of animals are varied and will be helpful in the future for teaching about where the animals live. You really can't go wrong with these books!. My 5 star review of How I Became Lotus RaineFrom the get go, when Erika showed me the graphic and teaser back in May of what she was working on- I immediately said “SHUT UP!” What I knew was the blurb and cover sounded awesome, what I didn’t know was that she was going to make me fall in love with a porn star. But, at the same time, the author does a great job of explaining the material in a way that is approachable. It was more evidence of what we believe, that Alan and Leslie have a genuine, authentic romantic love and a rare and intimate friendship. The idea of mantras and gayatris in the title comprising a fair portion of the book is not accurate. Robin Perini’s “Christmas Justice,” is a great spell binder and a must read. I'm drawn, in a way to these abusive story lines because I like the way the men com in and save the day, literally. My son loves looking at the pictures and turning the pages on his own (9 months old), and I love reading it to him. While his position here (with respect to human creative ability) is perfectly coherent, his arguments are not. I don't have anyth
